Hi all

I’m onboard the 1430 Kings Cross to Edinburgh from York where we were delayed departing for about 10 minutes. The TM announced that this was due to a broken down train just north of York station which has a fault affecting overhead wires in the York area.

I’m just wondering what kind of fault a unit could have that’d cause other trains to have power issues? It seems the issue is with 5E13 (802213 - unity) which I was on earlier when it failed (on diesel) at Huddersfield as it only had 1 operational engine/GU and was heading to the Scarborough route when it had the issue - could it have been to do with changing over power sources?

LNER stating ‘Operational incident on there twitter’.

From a reliable source. (Regarding 5E13)

Overhead lines are currently being inspected.

This has resulted in platforms 3 & 5 currently being blocked at York.

Could it be a pentagraph issue that has damaged the overhead cable?
Maybe - would or could such physical damage then prevent other trains in the station area from getting power? The issue seemed to be resolved relatively quickly with us being on the move after about 10 mins and 5E13 had moved according to the OTT maps after 15 mins or so

Ah interesting, I must’ve missed that tweet when I checked. Thanks :)

It's definitely something related to 5E13, as that's been quoted in the delay messages as "reporting an operational incident."

5E13 ran off the wires with the pantograph raised whilst shunting between P5 and P2.

Second one to do that at York now, last time platform 3 towards Plat 4 pantograph hits station canopy that time.

As noted at that time there is no lower pantograph/electric trains barred on the lines towards Scarborough.
