Does anyone know what “CD” means, printed at the top right of a standard orange credit card sized ticket?

It’s issued with a 26-30 Railcard discount; precious tickets have just had a “D” printed in the same place.

Ticket is an Advance Single.

It's supposed to be Child and Discount. I'm surprised that that would be printed on a 26-30 ticket.

Have attached picture. Cropped the bottom out because it contains ToD CTR and the customer’s name.

Would this be the fault of the TVM operator or the website selling the ticket?

C is child D is discount (they must have spent hours working out these codes!) It lets ticket inspectors tell at a glance apparently. You can have one or the other or both. However both is for the F&F child discount ticket.
Whilst this should just be D it's clear what the railcard is on the ticket. Surely not even the railway would object to this?

Whilst this is probably the most popular child discounted ticket, it’s for any child ticket which is further discounted, such as a Network or Veterans Railcard child discounted ticket or a child Priv ticket.

They're supposed to be a filled circle for a discount and a diamond for child. The C and D were only supposed to be used as back up options for machines that couldn't print symbols.

Judging by the font, I'm assuming whatever printed it is incapable of dealing with graphics

Judging by the image, it looks like one of the London Overground machines like the one I used at Queens Park last week.

It's an anomalous ticket, but it's not the passenger's fault, and the average passenger shouldn't be expected to know what every code on a ticket means.

Any railway staff inspecting the ticket could take a photo to query with the issuer, but otherwise should send the passenger on their way without a fuss.
