Hi guys! I have read in Todays Railways UK magazine that the 09:11 Southeastern service from London Charing Cross to Gillingham (Kent) via Woolwich Arsenal will be extended to Ramsgate calling at additionaly at Faversham, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Birchington-on-Sea, Margate and Broadstairs after the May timetable change. Does anyone know what class of train this will be formed of? Will it be formed of a 375 as it is a longer distance service?

Thanks guys!

Last year this was run with the usual booked stock for the service which remains the same now, 465+466+466. The only difference was that the formation was altered to be 466+465+466 on every occasion it was extended to Ramsgate (why, I'm not sure). I would expect it to be the same once again this year, but there are others more qualified to give a sure answer.

It'll be the 8 car 465+466+466 combination. It'll come from Slade Green depot in the morning and will work Slade Green - Charing Cross - Sidcup - Charing Cross before the working to Ramsgate so there's no chance of it being a 375, unless situations change somewhat.

I'm sure I remember that the reason it ends up being 466+465+466 (i.e the 465 in the middle) is something to do with the fact that the units that work the Ramsgate service spend the previous day in the depot and it's down to the various reshuffling that occurs.

Always 465/466 worked when I've seen it in previous years and I would imagine it will be no different this year.

It's basically an extension of a suburban service for people going to the coast for the day and from what I've seen it's quite well used especially during nice weather/school holidays.

Has a 375 ever worked along the Woolwich line?

Rarely, yes, but not in the typical sense. I can't recall a 375 ever working a metro service along the Woolwich line, i.e stopping at all stations such as a Gillingham to Charing Cross metro. That said I've done many diverted (emergency or planned) services along them, non-stop between Victoria and Strood/Rochester typically. Most recently during the storms when the line around Meopham was closed and during works between Swanley and Sole Street.

Does anybody have a link to this service online? Can't find it on any of NRE, RTT, OTT and SE's timetable pdfs.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
I should add - I ask because according to the OP's description (I haven't yet been able to obtain the new TRUK) that would mean it omits Rainham and Sittingbourne, which as far as I know doesn't happen at all currently, and hasn't since pre-High Speed days.

(Perhaps XC to Ramsgate was the last time such happened; that was Bromley South, Chatham and Faversham only IIRC.)

I'm assured it will be running, but you're right it's not on NRE, RTT, OTT, SE timetables or even in the carriage working notices. The only reference publicly to it is on the article for the May timetable changes... http://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/about-us/latest-news/may-2014-timetable-changes/

Southeastern said:
On Monday to Friday between 28 July and 29 August the 0911 from Charing Cross will also stop at Faversham, Whitstable, Herne Bay, Birchington on Sea, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate

I should add though, there were mistakes in that article that have been corrected since it was posted. I hope it's not another mistake that it's been included on the timetable changes when it actually won't run this year.

It has always run omitting Rainham and Sittingbourne, although this is the only service to do so. It calls all stops to Gillingham as usual for the service, then is fast to all the seaside destinations. The only exception is it stops at Faversham.

Thanks, news to me in that SE link as it runs high summer only, I was only checking from May immediately onwards! Never seen any publicity anywhere about such changes though, how long has such a service been an occurrence in high summer?

Definitely ran last year, not too certain about previous years (I don't think it did, but could be wrong). I can't find anything pre-2013 summer, so if it did run in summer 2012 and prior to that, it probably wasn't the same working.

Last year it got its own article, highlighting the boost of extra services to the Kent coast for daytrippers. I can find it if you want?

Thanks for that, I'll take your word for it, just don't recall reading anything about it in the rail media.

As far as I'm aware this is the only passenger service scheduled to run fast through Rainham and Sittingbourne, happy to be corrected though if that's not the case!
