I am curious why the 1330 ex Manchester train terminates at Tenby returning to Cardiff at 1957 with a connection to/from Pembroke Dock. Same train runs through on saturdays.

I have often wondered this. The only thing I can think of is that the 175 needs to bounce back to Cardiff, rather than stay at Pembroke Dock and then work the rest of that diagram.

This explanation assumes that the diagrams work differently on a Saturday, which is normally the case.

Glad I'm not the only one who has wondered about this! I also thought about whether it had to get back to Cardiff rather than sit the wasteful 50 mins or so at Pemb Dock.

If the PD unit then goes on to form the 2345 Swansea - Fishguard train, I can see why ATW don't want to waste a 175 on it! Especialyl as the return working then forms a Central Wales service!

This all makes sense. I am sure that soemone with access to the diagrams will enlighten us in due course.

Purely for diagramming purposes to keep the 153 back and run to Swansea later for 23 45 Fishguard. 175 returns to Cardiff otherwise it would finish up stranded at Swansea. On Saturdays, there is more flexibilty due to the weekend so the 175 can work to Fishguard and return to Cardiff on same Sunday.
