Am on the 1530 Paddington to Plymouth train (Sunday). Any particular reason it is scheduled to wait 21 minutes at Westbury? It's mildly frustrating given I'm getting off at the next stop (Castle Cary)!

Maybe something to do with the fact that you were booked via Swindon instead of mainline via Newbury and the timetable is booked for the wait at Westbury to regulate services towards Plymouth/Penzance

Due to engineering works across many parts of the FGW network, a lot of services have been retimed into and out of Paddington. HST services may have to take to the 'slow' lines between Paddington and Reading. Your service is also on a different route to normal after Reading so extra time has been allowed for that.

Your service is normally timed to depart Paddington at 1557, so that wait at Westbury enables the train to resume its normal path to Plymouth.

So that passengers between Taunton - Plymouth aren't affected. If it were to run 20 mins earlier throughout then it would be 3 mins in front of a XC service and you have absolutely no chance of getting a path for such a service.

Main Line to Plymouth is via Swindon. It's not the shortest route or the route most trains take but it is still the Main Line.

I think we could probably all work out what was meant, but thank you for clearing that up. I nearly had a panic attack when I saw it...
