After Traveling back to Norwich Late at Night on Friday, At Diss there appered to be a 4 Car Class 321 waiting at Diss Station operating the 2305 Greater Anglia Service from Norwich to Ipswich. This got me wondering weather this is a regular occurrence and also wether there are any more diagrams apart from the 1702 LST-NRW and 1930 return that utilise a Class 321/360/379 instead of the Normal Class 90 and Mk3

379s have been to Norwich. They did a test run around many electrified East Anglian routes last year.

As quoted in the photo in this thread, a 12-car 321 was used vice a loco-hauled set Saturday as two where broken up to make the top'n'tail 37/47 hauled rakes for the Airshow extras.

At Norwich station on Monday at 7:15pm, I saw 2 sets of Class 321 trains -- one 8-car and one 12-car. I was a little surprised by this since I thought that only the 1702 ex-London was worked by a 321. But today, again, a 321 was working the 1400 ex-Norwich, too. Is there a problem with the Class 90s this week, or this a regular thing since Greater Anglia took over?

Usually yes, units work:
1p48 17:02 Liverpool St. - Norwich
1p65 19:30 Norwich - Liverpool St.

But a complete diagram has been handled by units since 90004 with set developed a fault 11th Oct. and was (?still is) parked in Ingatestone loop. (As ever GA are short on stock).

More information may be found on the Class 90 Electric Loco Group website:

This is exactly what I have been told by a GA driver, there is (was :?:) a set stuck in Ingatestone loop after developing a fault, a melted bearing on one coach which lead to the set being failed. It was supposed to have been retrieved before last week's block however it wasn't!

I've noticed them mentioning in the tweets announcing short-forms this week peak time services "Formed of 8 carriages instead of 9, no catering"- which will be the services where a pair of 321s is standing in.

Aha, I saw that at Stratford 'Formed of 8 carriages only' - I thought round in FCC land 8 coaches is generous, 4 being the norm! ;)

Lots of complaints are coming in due to the now freebie 1st class offer & total lack of catering, Wifi & also the very limited amount seating. Recent journeys in Greater Anglia 1st class on the Norwich route have seen very healthy loadings even off-peak.

Emergency 321 cover for the stranded set was still in force today on the 06.25dn/09.00up but the 11.30 down was replaced with an IC set. Not sure though if this was just the Orient Way set which stables til the 18.10dn.

Why are Class 360's never used on Norwich services for substituting for an unavailable MK3 set?

I have seen 360's at Norwich in passenger carrying service. Not recently but say around 2 years ago very approximately. Sadly no dates or pics.

We got them cleared there (eventually) - but power draw is an issue for a 12 car.

The Norwich to Liverpool Street services are crewed by Liverpool St, Ipswich & Norwich crews. All except Norwich sign class 321s but not 360s. Norwich sign no EMUs at all.
