f you run winver.exe on Windows 95 Systems, the version number returned was 3.95. Certainly on a API level, it was essentially on parity with Windows NT4 (while Windows 95 used MS-DOS 7, (7.1 for 98 and 8.0 for Me). It was necessary for the 3.95 number to be reported for 16 bit programs, just like how OS/2 will report it's self as version 2.0 to ensure backwards compatibility.

Windows 95 was 4.0.950

The version number returning 3.95 on Win 95 was a well-known 'fix' from Microsoft for the countless applications which were wrongly checking the minor part of the Windows version to be at least 'n.10'. During beta testing it was quickly discovered that tens of thousands of programmes were refusing to run, giving the error "This program requires Windows 3.1" or similar, even though there were no compatibility problems beyond the version check. So MS changed the code to give a fake version in the Windows 3.x range, although the true version was 4.0. Windows 95 would have fallen flat on its face without the workaround, other MS components have been known to present fake version numbers for compatibility reasons as well.

Anyway back to trains... Do 458/5s and Desiros have the same issues with ASDO or is that mitigated because a guard can always open a local door and worst case passengers can exit through there?

The SWR ASDO has a default mode that will open the number of coaches that would be accommodated at any platform on their network, the front 4 for a 450 or 458 and the front 3 for a 444. If there's a fault of some kind that is likely what will happen.
