OK, here's a fun one. On 19th Feb 1978 Deltic ballymoss ran out on the gwr!

what a sight eh?

So, there's some history here:

And by judicious googling i've found the following:

4206Mark I TSOs.
4233MK1 TSO 4233 Named ‘Rebecca’
4753Mark I TSOs.
21185BCK
13347Mark I FKs.
13352Mark I FKs.
4763Mk1 TSO
4758Mk1 TSO
4215Mk1 TSO
256443rd class corridor carriage, mainline electrification (Eastbourne) SK
5181Mk2 TSO
1913Mark I RUB

but as you can see i have a lot of gaps!

I dont know anything about coach numbers, is it fair to say 4206 being a similar number to 4233 will be the same? I fear not!

I'd have thought one would be a restaurant car? would one have been a brake car too?

Thanks!
Dan

PS: i'd love to submit the results back to those sites above, incase they want to update their details.

1913 is a Mark I RUB.
4206/15/33 and 4753/58/63 are all Mark I TSOs.
5181 is a Mark II (not IIA) TSO.
13347/52 are Mark I FKs.
21185 is a BCK.
25644 is an SK.

I did this the 20th century way, by looking them up in a book.

If you are interested in this sort of information, then check out second hand bookshops at preserved railways, where used copies are often available at reasonable prices.

ok definitely. there are books about coach formations etc then? any particular ones to recommend? I've got various NSE books, but this is slightly older..

It seems quite a mishmash of a rake!

Not train formations, but definitely lists of vehicle numbers with specification details.

My source is the platform 5 coaching stock pocket book 1980. People really serious about this have the RCTS coaching stock books.
