Thanks for that, don’t wanna put too much pressure on myself, went on the sim today, moving trains around but not really understanding, just pressing haha! What’s your advice about weekend stays? Did you do it much?
I never stayed on the weekend, I didn't even touch revision on my weekends off, your brain needs the rest.
Dont stress too much. All of my lot passed and all over 90 percent in exams.

There has been a lot of great advice here for those just starting training school. Yes the course is seriously difficult, it’s by far the most challenging course I’ve undertaken. The best comparison I had (warning - clichés incoming) is that effectively you’re simultaneously learning to drive and learn the Highway Code from scratch, word for word, and learning both at the same time which is quite intimidating! That being said, it’s achievable if you put the hours in, the most effective thing you can do is try, try and try again!

It’s also important to totally switch off (as best you can) on a Friday. You are not expected to work all the time, hence the reason the hotel is not provided every night! Make sure you get some rest at the weekends. It’s a relatively short but totally intense course which is massively worth the hard work. You will look back in a year and wonder what the fuss was about!! Speaking from experience.

Anyone going signalling school 1st April?
I'm still waiting for medical to get in touch with me mind you.
Also does anyone know which hotel they use In York? I'm trying to scope a gym out .

Id suggest you’ll need every hour studying or on the sim - I’m sure a gym can wait for ten weeks?

For me no it can't. It's as important to me as eating is. You absorb information better being in the best mental state possible and for me that involves the gym. As said above by someone else there was plenty of socialising going for food so I'm sure that I can find time for the gym.

Hmmmm, well don’t be surprised if you struggle then - I’d suggest you may have a problem with food then if you feel the need to work out is on a par with actually sustaining your life.

Cheers, I'm sure I'll find out more when I meet with the local LOM
Manton itself is a nice TCB box, albeit in a bizarre location at the end of an industrial estate. The other boxes to the sides of it (Oakham, Langham going up and Ketton, Uffington going down) are AB. If there is any other specific info you'd like ahead of your meeting feel free to ask and I will try to help as I know a little about that area.

Hi there. Completely new to this forum but it seems very helpful. I have recently applied for a grade 2 signaller role at Knottingley. I have passed the application and online asssessments and I am now about to do my pre recorded Signaller scenario asssessment before the live interview. Does anyone have any tips or example scenarios I may face in this test? Also, any helpful tips/guidance for the actual interview. It is on the 20th January. Thank you in advance and fingers crossed I will be joining you all in the near future!

I won't profess to know anything at all about going to the gym, however what I can tell you is there is more than enough hours in the day to fit in an hour or so in the gym; or for anyone else reading this thread, an hour of whatever hobby you choose, and still have time to do revision / spend time on the simulator.

Two things I'd advise you to do

1) Ask when you get to York if anyone can recommend a gym near to your hotel or the training center (The trainers see lot's of candidates every year, and they will be able to point you in the right direction)

2) Get yourself into a routine from the first week, if you're sim group is Monday morning, Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday morning for example, do the gym session at the opposite end of the day. (Unless you really like getting up early and can fit it in before sim time)

I’m just waiting to start signalling school; the recorded assessments were mostly about how you would convey a message and in what order you would do things. Have a look at how to communicate a message clearly, how to prioritise and make sure you have pen and paper handy to plan your response. The question gets read out, then you have some downtime to plan what you want to say, then you have a set amount of time to record your response. Just be clear, keep it simple explain your thinking only if you’ve got time for it

York ROC has a gym that is open 24/7 and available to use once you have done the induction. It's not the best, but it is free.
Not sure about access when you're training, i.e. without a permanent building pass - but ask the question at reception.

Thanks headshot. To be honest you can study too much. Down time is good for the mind.

Seems you can't use it as a delegate but that won't stop me from asking to lol

Youll be surprised how much time you'll spend siming and revising, we picked a pub that was nice and quiet and used that for studying time.
The marriott has a nice gym and spa which I used a few times, I found that even in the gym I was thinking about hornby Junction

See you on Monday
Sadly not now; there’s been some administrative cock up where everyone was expecting me to go apart from the signalling school, so I’m now pencilled in for the 31st instead! Anyone here going to that one?
Thank you for the reply Ben. Much appreciated and will look into that. Could you DM me please?
I haven’t got the minimum number of messages yet, however if you wanted to DM me I’d be very happy to help if I can

Does anyone know when you should expect to receive the confirmation of which signalling school & instructions for your first day? My start date is scheduled for the 31st Jan and just wondered if I should be chasing up or just waiting as it’s only 3 weeks away? The last communication simply said they would be in touch in due course.
