Internal or external candidate?Hi guys,
Apologies if this has been asked before. I'm rather new here.
I've noticed a Band 2 in the Greater Manchester area that closes today.
Got two questions really before I decide my next move:
1. What's the realistic take home for a Grade 2? I know the £29k is due to go up as previously mentiomed. I am aware of enhancements however that would supplement this so wondered what the pay would be after all of these are taking into account.
2. Is there anything higher than a Grade 2 posting wise in the Greater Manchester area or nearby? If so I may hang on and bide my time.
Cheers
ExternalInternal or external candidate?
Internally there are Grade 6s up
I can't tell you what posts will come up externally, but I know internal ones are or will beExternal
I believe you will maintain the full Grade 2 payment during trainingHi Guys ive got an interview soon for a grade 2 role. Now the new pay deal has been agreed ive seen it said on the forum that everyone at school will start on a grade 2 .Does that mean if i get the role i will be paid my full grade 2 pay during training or would i still be paid a grade lower during training?Thank you in advance.
Hey all. This may seem a silly question but I have been invited to complete the assessment scenario before going to interview. Should I get myself dressed up to record the scenario assessment, as in smart attire?

Congrats, so...Hi Guys
First post... Have applied for the greater manchester and high peaks G2 signaller vacancy.
I have passed the assessments and i am awaiting to hear if i get an interview.
Was hoping on some knowledge on overtime and sunday working in this area, are the boxes open 24/7 etc??? Also do you think i would do the IST in salford for this position as i would not be able to do it at york as on a residential course. Also Would they honour any holidays booked before starting?? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Thanks for the info. Hopefully get through and worry about the rest at a later date. May well be that the course would nt start before august anyway. cheers.Congrats, so...
The Grade 2s are not all manned 24/7 some are 7 days a week but usually close overnight
Overtime is around if you want the hours
IST is probably in Salford, however be warned they will not like you taking Annual Leave during those 12 weeks as you might miss an exam which is ultimately a fail
They'll usually honour holidays booked prior though if it doesnt conflict with IST
If you get the role and IST clashes with a holiday, they can work around that but I would avoid that situation if you can
Is this the case for all grade 2 boxes. I’m booked to go to Chester so trying to work out what to expect.Congrats, so...

Hi mate, I’m a little further ahead in this. I was successful in my application for a G2 in the High Peak area. I start on Monday for a week in my local area, company induction etc, then I’m off to Salford for the IST for 12 weeks from 3rd April.Hi Guys

Sorry to clarify, some Grade 2s may be 24/7 - my local area they aren't but I couldn't tell you about Chester sorryIs this the case for all grade 2 boxes. I’m booked to go to Chester so trying to work out what to expect.
The management are really reasonable!Hi mate, I’m a little further ahead in this. I was successful in my application for a G2 in the High Peak area. I start on Monday for a week in my local area, company induction etc, then I’m off to Salford for the IST for 12 weeks from 3rd April.
I mentioned at interview about pre booked holidays (September this year) and they were happy to honour them.
Doubt they’d want you to take holiday during the IST if that’s what you want, but I’ve found them more than reasonable to deal with so far.
If you do end up on the August one, you'll be on the same one as me!Thanks for the info. Hopefully get through and worry about the rest at a later date. May well be that the course would nt start before august anyway. cheers.
Completely depends on the box, local ones to me close overnight yet ones on mainlines or in IECC/ROCs are 24 hourI'm currently waiting to hear back from interview for crossing keeper Basingstoke ROC
just wondering has anyone heard anything back from those who applied ?
Is crossing keeper a 24 hour job ? if not what kind of hours is it ?
I’m with you. Thank you.Sorry to clarify, some Grade 2s may be 24/7 - my local area they aren't but I couldn't tell you about Chester sorry

Good luck at school!

Completely depends on the box, local ones to me close overnight yet ones on mainlines or in IECC/ROCs are 24 hour
Depends on the line traffic, example, local crossing box to me opens 30 mins before first train and closes 30 mins after passage of last (officially) (no trains after midnight on these smaller branches)
Good luck to all interviewing next week for the WMSC, got mine on Wednesday.
FYI. Note: "Guesstimate"
Silly question as I know this is a guesstimate. Are these figures less tax?
FYI. Note: "Guesstimate"
It pre tax figures however some of the lower ones are a little bit out as they have been done as a 5% + 4% whereas it should be a £1750 rise and then 4% for year 2, however hats off cos that’s a fair bit of work been put in thereSilly question as I know this is a guesstimate. Are these figures less tax?
