Hi everyone. Just got a grade 5 signaller role and just wondering what it means by the following:

“While training, staff will be paid on the basis of either the rate of pay and allowances associated with their previous position or their previous basic rate of pay and the new allowances, whichever is the greater.”

I’m on 34k now (not a signaller) - what does this mean for me?

I think they've staggered the WMSC enrolment. The job vacancy page says that they are doing IST in both June and September. So there's still hope guys!

Good luck mate. One thing I learnt when I applied was there lots of jobs for one advert. The one I applied had 9 positions from what I remember.

Yeah i think there is 6 for these area's! But two postions for my local area. Time will tell, the wait is awful though

Hi all, current grade 9 signaller in the south interested in moving up North to probably a G8 position at Manchester ROC, could anybody help with some route/workstation knowledge? I'm due to arrange a signal box visit but I'm travelling up from the south. I'm currently searching the forums and i have found a small bit of info but I'd like to know which workstations are currently in the ROC at the moment and perhaps lines, fringe locations, crossings, gate boxes etc. Anything would be helpful.

There will be more now but I remember there being
Manchester North Workstation
Manchester Central Workstation
Oxford road workstation
Liverpool lines workstation
Blackpool workstation.
Man north used to have fringe box working with bagluey fold, but I’m sure that signal box has gone now.
Carlton level crossing is an OD on the Blackpool workstation.
I imagine Clayton Bridge, which was a cctv controlled by bagluey fold will be in the ROC as well.

Happy to be corrected, but AFAIK the above only applies to internal moves made by existing signallers.

In all other cases - even if you already work for NR in another role - you'd be considered a new entrant to signalling, which, according to the T&Cs agreed in the recent pay deal, means a 6-month probationary period, 52 week rule, G2 pay (c£31.9K) during IST and then G4 (c£37.8K) during box learning.

My understanding is the 6 month probationary period is for new entrants to NR only. The 52 week rule definitely applies which I think is reasonable.

I'm a internal applicant waiting for a G2 position decision. Internally advertised as £29,221 but fingers crossed this would increase in line with the recent pay deal.

Unless you’re a current signaller moving internally, there is no ‘coming on current salary’.

If you’re on the new deal then it’s as non de guerre said above, or the old deal is training pay at a grade below your box grade (which deal depends on exactly when it was advertised/offered etc)

I accepted a g3 prior to the deal at the lower rate but my payslip from claiming the grade is the higher amount with the extra % added

Definitely start fresh. Enjoy your spare time before the course starts and hit the ground running from Day 1.

I assume there wasn't a t/c failure, multiple requests for line blocks, PICOP ringing to discuss T3 details, trespassers on the line, a failed train going on then.

Can you tell me roughly how long after getting the offer Optima got in contact with you about medical dates? Also do you find out medical result on the day or after a couple of days? Thanks in advance
