While it’s by no means essential, visiting the box absolutely could help. It can inform about the box, it’s ways and neighbouring areas and systems, methods of workings etc, plus it shows willing and putting the effort in before interviewing.

I was asked, very specifically, why have you applied for “this” box.

I’d say my visit to the box helped enormously.
I wouyldn't bother, it will do nothing to help you with the interview.
Open_G. Maybe not mate but I’m 10 min away and I’m sure it won’t do any harm. If 2 candidates are kinda equal something like this could be the difference. And it’s no bother.

Just had an update confirming my start date and my IST training which will be in Bristol which is great, no need to stay away from home.

Does anyone know If trainees work Sundays at TVSC? and is there a specific training roster as such or is dependent on your training needs?
Congrats! Is your IST in October? If it is, we’ll be on the same one

I respectfully disagree; its an opportunity to gain location specific knowledge and if nothing else shows willing on the part of the candidate.
Totally agree.. I visited a box before my interview, and they did ask if i had. Its helpful because you have gained an insight into what you could be doing etc, and you speak to an experienced signaller

I'm sure I've got signalling school in October, where is yours?

Evening.

Had the final stage video interview for the Grade 2 signalling jobs this week and thought it went very well. This forum has been great, its given me a wealth of knowledge and really helped me prepare for it. I obviously don't know how good the competition is, but feel like I did the best I could and I'm quietly optimistic.

Was told I'd find out if I was successful by the end of next week. Can anyone who has been offered or rejected for the job recently tell me if they received the news by phone or email? Only asking as I tend to ignore calls from numbers I don't know, due to the constant spam calls you get these days

Cheers.
Well done and Good Luck

I received an email 8 weeks after my interview which i was unsuccessful, but kept on a reserve list. 2 weeks later got a phone call to offer me a position. Hope its good news for you

No offer for me but been put a reserve list after interview. Any general advise on this or just a waiting game?
I also got put on a reserve list in May, and they offered me a job 2 weeks later.
Think it will all depend on people leaving or turning offers down etc

Funny enough about an hour after I posted this I got the call. Official job offer based on outcome of a medical etc so good news!

Only issue I’ve stumbled into is they’ve offered me Harrogate. In my application it asked my preferred locations which were Wakefield, knottingley and Selby, Harrogate wasn’t in my preferred locations as it’s an hour from my house. I’m not sure if it’s a mistake or if they’ve already just filled the positions in my preferred locations.

Either way I’m happy to have the offer! Let me know how you guys get on.
It won't be Harrogate Signal Box. It's likely the Harrogate line between Poppleton and Harrogate. Specifically Cattal, Hammerton, Poppleton as there are loads of vacancies.

Ah right. I thought they were crossing guards or something? It also advertised York outstations which I assumed poppleton etc would come under York, I would’ve thought it would be Harrogate north, starbeck or knaresborough. Either way I’ll be trying to transfer to another box after the 52 weeks as the Harrogate line is further away than I’d like to commute.

Out of interest if you know that line do you know what grades the boxes are because I know there’s several on that route and a lot of it is single line.

Hey man congrats on getting this far. I just got offered a grade 2 position last week and it was 2 weeks after the interview, a lady from either HR or the recruitment team called me to give me the information I needed on start date and course dates etc so you’ll most likely get a phone call.

Which boxes have you applied for?

Morning guys! I was offered a grade 2 position for “York Outstations” last week. I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas of what boxes this might include please? My understand is that it would be Harrogate branch line area. I’ve been given a start date towards the end of October so hopefully see some of you about! Cheers

Congratulations bud. Harrogate line is what I’ve been offered too and same start date! Probably will be on the same course.

I work that line as a conductor atm so know the area, poppleton, hammerton or cattal are what I suspect you’ll be working. It’s semaphore signals too pulling big old levers.

I was reserve list in May too but I’ve since seen the box & area I applied for advertised again.

Just had my offer pack. Couple of questions

1. What is the Annual Leave Entitlement for a signaller working 12 hour shifts?

2. Is Training Pay as follows (Grade 7 position)
IST G2
On Location Training G4
1st Desk Signed G7

3. I am already a member of RPS, what is my options on this?

Thanks mate. All 4 London based ones that were up recently. Cheers for the info - presumed it would be a call if successful and email if you weren't.

Hiya! Congrats to you both. Thought I'd reach out and say Hello, as I've also been offered Harrogate Area with the same start date :)

Congrats to you too bud! I’ve just sent off all my acceptance stuff and just waiting on a date for a medical. You local to Harrogate then? I originally wanted Wakefield but don’t get a choice on who accepts you.

Yeah, local to Harrogate :) I am also just awaiting the date for medical after sending off my acceptance stuff. Yeah, I'm local to Harrogate. Guess it was a bit easier/more difficult as it was the only area that I put down. Although, will be interesting to see which boxes are considered to be in the Harrogate area.

Hi all- was successful for the grade 2 Yorkshire posts too. Been given a provisional start date of the end of October and then signaller training couple of weeks into November. Sent everything off too so just waiting for my medical ect. To my amazement was offered a box in the Scunthorpe area which is where I’m actually from, so can’t wait to get started :D
