Holyhead freightliners had been stopped in 1991 as be uneconomic by BR before privatisation. North West Trains didn't start to run until 1997. As has been the case and always will be electrifying the North Wales coast will be 'poor value for money’

Indeed - the further west you go (or went) , the worst the economics (sadly) - most studies showed that. The lack of underpinning freight business and port led rail passenger business does not help. (not that road investment was in any way affected by this over the years) ......
