Nice pictures - at one time I regularly changed at Helsby for Little Sutton on the hourly DMU to Birkenhead Woodside.
I also had one trip on the Mouldsworth freight line, on an excursion from Manchester Central to Barmouth which reversed twice at Helsby to reach Chester General.
The Helsby semaphores have not (yet) been disfigured by the tubular safety ladders that have been added in places like Shrewsbury.

Nice little trip that, clearly. I have to agree, for sheer peace and quiet with lots of semaphores and old buildings that is going to be hard to find. I doubt anywhere like it remaining elsewhere!
