Looks like the 0800 Ipswich to Peterborough was so overcrowded it had Manea & Whittlesea calls removed. The following 0958 departed Ipswich 9E for the same reason. Will wait time at Bury. Those Stadlers can't come soon enough.

GA seem to be one of the few TOCs actively doing something about their shortage of rolling stock and capacity. There has been a trend since privatisation to order the minimum new stock for services and not much buffer to add capacity as required.

Whilst the local lines are being upgraded with capacity the jury is still out on the commuter fleet. Plan. I reckon they haven't ordered enough.

I overtook an Ipswich Buses double decker on the A14 with the destination of Peterborough station. It appeared to be empty but it could be used for Ely station.

No 745s for a little while yet. Monday's to Friday's you'll normally catch a 755 on the Cambridge diagram starting with the 06:33 & on what was NC37 short set diagram on the Wherry Lines.
Is there a gap in the Cambridge diagram for refuelling?
I've been working through the public timetable & the 1237 arrival at Norwich "could" form the 1240 to Cambridge but it's probably a different unit off Crown Point.
I'm trying to get to Norwich or Cambridge to ride the 755, but I can't leave Chelmsford until after 0930......

TIA for any advice, DC.

Yes some of the unit diagrams are built around being 755s requiring fuel. That particular train was also changed as cannot reliably form the 1240 due to its incoming path over Trowse Bridge being taken now by the down Ni90 service.

Next Norwich to Cambridge departure should be 1540.That train will run 1405 to Lowestoft and return then run to Cambridge and back 2 times,if it's the same as yesterday.
Was an enjoyable experience, unlike the 1748 class 153 back from Lowestoft!

Very busy day at Norwich then I guess. One of the big positives when the stadlers come online, the regional sets can come in from lowestoft/yarmouth and be timetabled on to cambridge as they're all the same units rather than the current miss match of sizes and standards

You'd hope they diagram the 3 and 4 cars sensibly rather than mix them all up like the XC 2 and 3 car 170's.

That assertion doesn’t exactly stand up to detailed scrutiny. Go and have a look at the size of the fleets at privatisation and what they are now.

Very questionable with Anglia Railways. We had 17 DMUs at privatisation compared with 26 now. On the Intercity front there was a reduction when going over to longer mk3s (load 10 now is equivelent to load 11 mk1/2s) and the loss of boat trains. Intensity of work now however is far greater.

No TOC I can think of ever takes into account increase in passenger usage when ordering rolling stock, either because of short franchise terms, cost, or because the DfT forbids them to, or only obliges them to order a certain amount not more. They always end up bringing back older rolling stock LNR 319s, SWR 442s.
I reckon they haven't ordered enough.
They can keep the 379s if that is so, but I think careful diagramming in the timetable recast could be the answer and making sure service gaps aren't too large.

Surely there must be a better way than checkered film? Blinds, curtains or even a uniform translucent film (at the expense of phone signal) would be preferable for me. Like with contravision, my eyes doesn't know whether to focus on the view behind or the grid pattern.

Blinds won't be installed now as they tend not to last unfortunately. Even the curtains in Class 360s 1st class have long gone.

Thanks, I'd guessed that it had lost it's path.

Next weeks plans are being made, probably Nor-Low & return, then Cambridge & back.

indeed. I was lucky enough to get the flirt today(755/4), and I must say they are pretty impressive.

definitely a huge upgrade on the sprinters, and they are very quick out of the blocks.
acceleration wise they are up there with voyagers/meridians

Many thanks, I'm intending to do Chelmsford to Norwich, the returns to Sheringham, Lowestoft & Cambridge. Should be able to get the 1900 back to C/Ford too.

Drivers are having to shut off power & check as so easy to speed in places where it would never be possible. Superb bits of kit & even the anti type stalwarts at the depot have been won over.

Well, 2600+ hp is a bit OTT for a light-weight 4-car DMU.........

Had my first run on a Class 755/4 yesterday and was very impressed.
I love the way when the doors open the steps come out and adjust to the platform.
Seating seemed a bit narrower but comfy and the only problem was the cantaliever tube holding the double seats, can't stretch leg out, and the heating duct along floor level below the window.
That centre power car is a great idea, quite noisy when you walk through it at speed but hardly noticeable from the saloons.

Probably the best units going, should be even better on electric.
