I've been to York a few times and have a basic understanding of the station layout, but I've spotted something on Google and I want to find out if it's feasible.

I'm staying at the YHA on Saturday, coming from the station. It's North West of the Station, the other side of the Ouse. I'd rather not go into town to go out again.

Google implies that there's a footpath alongside the bridge north of the station over the Ouse, and I can see an alleyway alongside the Royal Mail Sorting Office. That has two signposts, one for the station and one for Marygate, so it would seem to be OK.

What I'm wondering is, whether there is an access to the station directly onto that path - the sign implies there is. Does it go through the car park bit alongside the platform? Or do I have to go out of the station and through the entrance of the Royal York?

Is that the best way to get to the YHA?

yes, the path leads into the car park near the scarborough Bay platform - you come out onto platform 4.
It is only about a minute or so from the river into the station. then over the river on the footpath on the scarborough rail bridge.

Thanks for that. Seems to be the most sensible way of going about it. I suppose that'd be quicker than going out the NRM entrance and up Leeman Road.

It's approx 16 min walk via Scarborough Bridge.

As for which exit to use, I'd say the one near platform 4.

(That said, if you arrive into platforms 10/11 and happen to be near the footbridge then it may be quicker to go out near the NRM and through the subway.... but probably not)

yes there is a bike ramp - it is a pleasant walk along the river that way. You could walk along the Ouse to Water End quite easily. You could also take the bus as far as Clifton Green and walk from there.
