Just seen reported after having visited recently that the Ahr valley railway (Ahrtalbahn) is being reconstructed. This follows its near complete destruction in July 2021 after severe flooding in the Ahr valley. Really positive to see this project to reopen the remaining 16km from Walporzheim to Ahrbrück. Having travellers it in 2019 it’s a stunning route.

Reconstruction involves 16km of rebuilt from scratch track bed, 9 new bridges and electrification.

Thank you for giving me another idea for my next Global Eurailpass. Looks a most attractive railway, with the advantage it has a direct train from Bonn once an hour on weekdays.

The Germans can still do it!
