Thanks for that MisterT, it shows well how the EP brake system works on that particular train. I'm guessing there's a separate wire used for the emergency brake and brake continuity?

The train uses a combined 'wired' system and the 'normal' air brake as a back-up, and therefor the emergency brake will trigger the 'normal' air brake system and the magnetic track brakes.
The brake handle is a combined EP and dynamic regenerative brake handle.
Steps 1 to 4 are used for both the EP brake and the dynamic brake together, but when there is enough force on the dynamic brake, the EP brakes will be released automatically.
Steps 5 to 7 are always a combination of EP brakes and dynamic brakes.

Brake tests are usually done when activating the cab. Both the 'normal' air brake and EP brakes are tested and done with the displays aid, wich will display the status of all coupled units (with a maximum of 3 units, or 15 coaches). In case of a computer failure, the brake tests can be done with the usual procedures (and hopefully with the help of a guard, otherwise 15 coaches will take some time to walk for both the 'normal' air brake tests and the EP brake tests ;)).
