Reporting that all lines out of Manchester Piccadilly are currently blocked and the disruption is expected to continue until 10:15.
Anyone know the culprit?
Anyone know the culprit?
A pair of 331 working 2H02, 0758 Piccadilly to Hazel Grove, was the culprit.
From the picture I captured and posted at 08:49, it looks as if that's what happened, and the units were able to reverse into platform 8.06:32 from Blackpool. Hmm why a pair though? Couldn't one push or pull the other to safety?
Only by severing the electrical coupling between the two units then isolating (completely incapacitating) all brakes on the 'dud' unit, assuming you could actually tell which was the dud one, and assuming it wasn't a fault that affected them both. To then move the train you'd need another driver and would be restricted to maximum 5mph.06:32 from Blackpool. Hmm why a pair though? Couldn't one push or pull the other to safety?
uh-oh.I hear on the grapevine that an investigation has apparently revealed that the main cause of 2H02 sitting down was traced to be a hot beverage finding its way into somewhere it shouldn't.
Far better to try to fault-find and then work round the problem by isolating whatever system is involved in the unit sitting down and refusing to budge. If this needs a full reset of all systems then so be it, that takes about ten minutes though.
What was the jelly bean cancellation? It caused more chaos, but isn't as comical, as the jelly bean cancellation a few years ago.
Yep, especially if it's not a fault that you're trained to locate and rectify, I believe said beverage had been spilt in the back cab causing odd issues with the TCMS detecting spurious impulses from the master switch.Imagine the pressure of sitting there trying to figure out and rectify the fault, whilst your train is sprawled across the points blocking Manchester at morning rush hour.

are cup holders provided on 331's?
Yep, the 331s have the same awful cup holders.I know 195s have a cup holder, so I'd have thought 331s would have had too.
The press will have a field day if that comes outI hear on the grapevine that an investigation has apparently revealed that the main cause of 2H02 sitting down was traced to be a hot beverage finding its way into somewhere it shouldn't.
IMO bad design. Almost literally, things like cabs should be designed so they can be swilled out with a hosepipe.I hear on the grapevine that an investigation has apparently revealed that the main cause of 2H02 sitting down was traced to be a hot beverage finding its way into somewhere it shouldn't.
If it's an Avanti service that's delayed their responsibility to pay delay repay to their passengers not Northerns. Northern will have to pay Avanti a fine for causing the delay but Avanti will get that regardless of if 1 or 200 people claim delay repay. Northern will not lose out by more passengers claiming delay repay off Avanti, Avanti will.Northern aren't getting much luck atm!
A bit rich and unreasonable of the Avanti train manager to be subtly placing the blame/delay repay on Northern's shoulders there as well.
