On an all zones 1 - 6 Travelcard starting from Watford Junction the route indicated is AAA LDM ZONE 7 - 9.

What does route AAA LDM ZONE 7 - 9 mean?

Sometimes I use Watford Met on my way back, is that legal? I've never encountered a problem.

That means it is valid also for unlimited travel in Zones 7-9. (AAA LDN ZONE 7-9 or simply AAA 7-9)

National Rail TIS-issued Zones 1-9 Travelcards will have this endorsement with the destination London Zones 1-6, for example, because such a destination as London Zones 1-9 does not exist.

watford junction is in zone 9 and normal travel cards go up to zone 6 so it gives you travel in 7,8 and 9, you will be able to use underground, overground and mainline trains:p

Watford Junction is not in Zone 9. It is in its own special zone. There is no station in Zone 9 on the DC Line.

Travelcards issued with an origin of Watford Junction will have validity throughout Zones 1-9.

That's handy to know about 7 to 9. I now know that I can travel all the way to Chesham and Amersham, if I so chose.

As I understand it you can go to Watford Jcn on a travelcard as long as you go via the London overground (but will stand to corrected if am wrong), I know this to be true for concession passes

If you have a Travelcard valid to Watford Junction, you can use any operator.

A Zones 1-9 Travelcard is not valid to Watford Junction, whether you use London Overground or another operator.

It all gets very confusing.
So with an A zones travel card not Watford Junction but OK London Overground (Snail train) to Watford High Street.

Yes, Watford High Street is in Zone 8 so valid if you have a ticket routed AAA 7-9. It is not valid on a Zones 1-6 Travelcard without this endorsement.

Watford Junction however is not within Zones 1-9. It is completely outside the zones. You will need a Travelcard specifically valid from/to Watford Junction to travel there.

There is no difference when using Travelcards which operator you use.

If your travelcard says that it is from Watford Junction (£16.40/£10.85 off-peak or £21.80/£16.40 anytime), then it also includes one free trip from Watford Junction into the zones by any permitted route - this includes fast LM trains. However, while you can keep returning to Watford High Street as many times as you like, you only get one return journey to Watford Junction

Once you have reached Watford Junction on your return journey your travelcard will retain validity on some local buses, and within London if you want to take a bus back in.

However, the gates at Watford Junction will retain these tickets on the way back so you will need to ask to be let through the gates if you then need to use it on the buses later on.

Yet, of course, if someone pays the same amount of money for an Oyster daily price cap, they get to make as many journeys to and from the Junction as their heart desires (which may not be that many…). Ah, such a minefield.

Or if they buy a Zones 1-9 + Watford Junction from a TfL TVM (POM)!
