Hope the new GNER run by Alliance Rail Holdings (DB) gets the go ahead, would be nice to have decent commuter trains in Worksop again.

Is DB slowly trying to take over the ECML bit by bit?

Alliance Rail Holdings is finalising its development plans for the operation of new rail services on a number of routes from 2016 through its subsidiaries Great North Western Railway Co Ltd (GNWR) and Great North Eastern Railway Co Ltd (GNER).

But we'll have to wait and see how Alliance Rails proposals get on with the ORR. Personally I'm still not all that confident that they will get much beyond the drawing board, though I'm certainly intrigued by the possibilities of ditching GCs Bradford service and using its paths (at least as far as Doncaster on the ECML) to get around the current problems with trying to fit in more trains on the already busy southern sections of the ECML.

It certainly looks like one going on the pictures in the publicity material here and here.
