I will arrive at Hook of Holland on Saturday, May 17th, at 08:00 on the Stena ferry from Harwich.

Can anyone advise the best way to get to, Utrecht?

I was thinking of the following route, Metro to Rotterdam then train to Utrecht.
Also, I do have to make the return back to Hook the same day possibly via Amsterdam.

Am I also correct that when using the metro I can tap in and tap out using a debit card, No need to purchase a ticket from a machine.

From Hoek van Holland Haven towards Utrecht you can stay in the metro until Alexander and take the train from there, bypassing central station for which you need to change twice. You can use a debit card indeed, but it is cheaper to buy a ticket as there is no price cap.

From Amsterdam you have two options: take the direct train (with supplement) towards Rotterdam Centraal and then either take the metro from there (change at Beurs) or take another train one stop towards Schiedam Centrum (6 per hour on Saturdays) and take the metro from there. Or you can take the long route via Leiden, which brings you to Schiedam Centrum directly and change to the metro there.

Also it is good to know that possible timetable changes due to engineering works are not available yet for that that day. If you post a reminder on the 22nd of april I can check whether there are any changes for that day.
