A 'Seaside Special' to bracing Skegness aboard an InterCity 125 High Speed Train - at a really unbeatable price so bring all your friends and family!
Noted for its well-tended seaside gardens and long sandy beaches, welcoming Skegness is a must for a late-summer visit after the crowds have gone home.
Skegness was primarily a fishing village and small port until the arrival of the railway in 1875. In 1908, Great Northern Railway commissioned a poster to advertise excursions to the resort, the first being on Good Friday 1908. The 'Skegness is so Bracing' poster featuring The Jolly Fisherman helped to put Skegness on the map and is now world famous. The poster, derived from an oil painting by John Hassall, was purchased by the railway company for just 12 guineas. Paradoxically, Mr Hassall did not visit the resort until 1936. He is said to have died penniless.
The journey we take is an interesting one, via Nottingham to Sleaford and onward through the distinctive Lincolnshire countryside past wayside halts and little signalboxes controlling traditional semaphore signals. Skegness station, very much a 'railway outpost' these days, is an easy level walk from Clock Tower Gardens, the promenade and of course the beach. Of course no visit here would be complete without sampling the local delicacy of fish and chips!
Our East Midlands Trains InterCity 125 is very much in contrast to the Skegness excursion trains of bygone times. The stop at Luton Airport Parkway, close to the M1 not far off the M25 and offering excellent parking, will be useful to customers from counties adjoining London on all sides. You will have around four hours at leisure in Skegness.
The First Class Dining fare includes the Great British Breakfast, and a three course dinner. We are sorry but there are no guarenteed 'Tables for Two' left in First Class Dining.

London St Pancras 07.45/21.30
Luton Airport Parkway 08.15/20.55
Kettering 08.50/20.05

Don't quite see the point, since EMT will run one from Derby in the summer, although I guess they are pretty hard to get to for people in the south.

And why the hell would you want to go to Skegness in September?! (Although why you'd want to go at all is beyond me!)
