Hello

We're off to Belgium for a beer tasting tour in April and have the Saturday to do as we please so we thought we'd take the train to Luxembourg for a few hours.

On the SNCB website, it's showing the fare as 33 Euros each way for both of us (seems cheap) but this is a Non-flex fare. It's not clear what that means other than there's no refund - sounds like you're not tied to a specific train but on the website you have to pick a train to be able to buy the ticket. Does anyone know how these tickets work?

Also, are these fares only available on-line or will they be available on the day at the station?

Cheers

if your not travelling on Thalys that is your weekend fare. Weekend travel is a lot cheaper than weekdays. As long as your off the high speed network, you are not tied to any trains. You can take any IC train.
Non-Flex means no refund.
Just make sure you book Luxembourg (LU) and not Luxembourg MTIB as the former is in Brussels.

Its MUCH cheaper to buy to Arlon (last stop in BE), as you can then get the cheaper weekendreturns (about 1 eur more as single, max price). Buy online a normal return Arlon-LUx. And if you're junior<26 or senior>65, even more so (gopass 1=single for 6 eur, or senior return).
On weekdays (ONLY) is even cheaper to go via Athus (south of Arlon-no trains sat/sun, but connecting buses from TEC), and buy the LUX daytickets (4 eur) from conductor-unless there is now also a CFL ticketmachine in Athus.

Tickets are always for sale as well on the stations. Tickets international aren't for sale at all stations, but are available at Antwerpen-Centraal.

Price for a round trip Arlon-Luxembourg is €13 (age 26-65) or €12 (under 26). The round trip Antwerpen-Arlon is €22,20 for a round trip (weekend ticket); valid friday 19:00-sunday last service. Total price sould be €35,20 for each passenger.

You could buy both tickets at the station; the €13 one at the international desks (left ones), the €22,20 ones on the right desks.

Thanks guys. Don't want to get anything too complicated in case I get it wrong. The £33 fare I mentioned earlier was for 2 people so a couple of Euros less than the split tickets (but with less validity by the sound of it!). We only have time to get to Luxemburg for a couple of hours so it will be out and back the same day.
