Advance Tickets have always been booked train only, there now has appeared an anytime advance at £15 Crewe to London. I do not know if this is a new product or widely available.

The C19 product was introduced in about April last year by WMT / LNWR. It will cease being available from Saturday.

They are only available on the West Midlands/LNW website.
If they are shown as available on the dates you want you can buy them. I've just checked the WMT website and they are availaibe for use until the end of March.
The advance purchase requirement varies between one and three days depending on the journey.
The website gives mixed messages as to whether they are any train or booked train only.

They’re available on other websites too and have been since inception. I don’t see how the purchase horizon varies by route - the data doesn’t work that way. Do you have examples?

An Anytime Advance (LNWR/WMT only) can be used on any train on the specified route that you booked the ticket for on that day. I used one last August and had no issues using it.

It was new in June: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/“anytime-advance”-new-ticket-type-created-by-west-midlands-trains.205587/

But as stated above, it's now being withdrawn.

It's only available on selected routes priced by West Midlands Trains, and only valid on services operated by WMT (branded WMR or LNR)

So it's been withdrawn from sale from Saturday but available for use until March?

So need to book any needed by Saturday. Is there a source for this?

Fair enough. So is this correct then, tickets are available for travel until the end of March but must be booked by this coming Saturday?

If you see any available for March, I'd book them ASAP (though bear in mind there are no guarantees as to what the situation in March is)

It is absolutely correct that the ticket will be withdrawn this Saturday.

Did London to Crewe in October. Booked for the 18:46 train, but we decided to stay in London longer. The 19:34 got cancelled and the ticket was accepted on the 20:34 (despite booking for the 18:46 on the website). Plus Delay Repay so it was basically a free journey.

I think "Anytime Day Single (online)" is a more fitting name for the ticket.

Avanti has / used to have an online promotion for cheaper Off Peak tickets online and they were not called "Off Peak Advances"!

If the 1846 did not run then you were entitled to claim Delay Repay and take the 2034. If the 1846 did run then you were not entitled to Delay Repay.

Agreed but this is the rail industry!

The key thing is to be consistently inconsistent and to be simply complicated.

Simple! ;)

When I say “booked on” I meant that I clicked that train on the journey planner app. The physical ticket does not say anywhere which train you are “booked on”.

No, but there were comments to that effect earlier in the year.

My understanding is that this user wished to catch the 1934 but, because it was cancelled, was delayed by 1 hour, entitling them to Delay Repay equivalent to a full refund.

The "booked" train is irrelevant. Anytime Advances are just a modified form of Anytime ticket, with route/TOC restrictions. The "booked" train isn't printed on the ticket. No different from how an Anytime ticket can be "booked" for a specific train (with a reservation coupon) but does not prevent a passenger from choosing to travel on a different train on the day, and claiming Delay Repay if that particular train is cancelled.

All a moot point, though.

It's a real shame to see this ticket go. It has been very useful indeed. I'm surprised they're withdrawing them during a lockdown given they were introduced because of or during lockdown 1.

Assuming the Anytime Advance was created as a Temporary Fare, the Ticketing and Settlement Agreement only allows them to be on sale for a maximum of 34 weeks, and there then has to be a gap of at least 17 weeks before a similar product can go on sale.

It was reported here in mid-June, but I'm guessing it was launched on or around 31st May as that would be the full 34 weeks from this Saturday.

What a shame they are going just now. I would book some for March but suspect we will still be in lockdown then.

Does anyone have a list of routes these are available on?

Anytime Advance tickets are still showing on the LNW website today (Monday).

All I can see from a quick glance is normal Advance tickets, and the Anytime Advance is no longer showing on BRFares - which suggests they've been removed/suppressed from the fares database.

Yes - £13 each way Canley to Euston, but disappered now.
Looking on BRFares, £13 is one of the normal Advance price points (ticket type C3S)...but I don't know what the Anytime Advance price was to be able to make a comparison.

It's a shame this was classed as a Temporary Fare given the ticket had an advance booking requirement. TOCs are allowed to have their own TOC specific Advance fares without restriction.

Also, for many of the routes the Anytime Advance existed on, LNR were not the lead operator pricing walk up Any Permitted routed tickets (hence there being LNR Only walk ups on such flows). I therefore wonder if they could have retained the Anytime Advance fare for such flows.
