Apple Pay on the Underground

Is there an issue with Apple Pay at certain ticket gates on the underground? Tried using it over two days but certain ticket gates (seemingly the ones that look like NR ones) would take a few attempts at it to accept it and open up.

It happens from time to time, can be perfect one day and troublesome the next, at the very same barrier.
