Hello all,

If I was to record an announcement from BHM, Cardiff, Manchester, whatever and use it in free vidoes, or free programs/free routes for BVE, MSTS and such, would I need permission from NR/Phil Sayer/the manchester woman (whoever does that again) or would it be free to use?

Did Antony need permission to use Phil's BHM announcement in Xcity for BVE for instance?

Any help required, as recordings might be needed one day for a welsh route, and would like recordings of Cardiff...but need to clear the above question first.

Cheers,

James.

Yeh, Barnes has Phil Sayer and Celia Drummond. Standard SWT Ditra.

Recorded announcements are, I believe, copyright of the voice over artist. I know Jordy got an email from Phil Sayer about that (who was very friendly about the whole thing, but other artists might not like it), so I guess he can elaborate on this.

Might not help that much but the Anouncements in NWM were specifically recorded by Phil Sayer...

Also..Can anyone actually tell me who does the anouncements in the former Wales & West / Wessex Trains and ATW areas...the nice female voice... - Example being at Westbury...;)

That would be the voice of Ruth Mitchell (I think thats her surname!), Shes an ex-wessex trains employee (Now FGW), who lives in Truro.

Yes you must get permission, I didn't realise myself until, as said above, Phil contacted me by PM on another forum.

The recordings of Phil at New St on the Cross City route did require permission, AFAIK this was not realised until after the route was released, and it had to be withdrawn for a short time until they could get permission!

Phil Sayer said:
Please be aware that recording any audio material and posting it on a website is illegal. In the case of all the CIS audio, I own the copyright, and license the usage of the material either directly or indirectly to the end user.

If you email him i'm sure he'll be able to sort something out though!

If its a consequential take (ie the announcements were recorded whilst filming a train) then it would be grey territory. Direct recording or setting up to record the announcements would be breach of copyright.

For things like BVE, it's probably just as easy to record your own in an empty room.
