I'll be in the Cardiff area in two weeks' time - haven't heard anything about this in a while running the Cardiff Bay shuttles, so anyone with up to date gen?

ATW are supposed to be trying to source some new wheelsets for the class 121 which is the reason why it is taking so long to get the 121 back in action.

The former network rail 121's that were in the sidings at ATW's Canton depot have moved recently to the Colas rail depot so I have been wondering if something is up.

I wouldnt be surprised if the management at Arriva Trains Wales have been in contact with Chiltern to see if they can get some parts from them.

Besides I am sure someone will be posting a thread on here if they spot the Arriva 121 back in service

Personally i would attach it to 67003, take it to Aylesbury drop it off and use a Class 142 on the Bay branch for all the use it is.

I know someone on heritage railway who wouldn't have it due to the lack of spare parts to keep it going.

We don't seem to have any problems in our group keeping first gen units going.

Shame it's still out of action I was hoping to cop it when I'm in Cardiff on Monday.

Mildly amusing anecdote:- I was on the P Risborough - Aylesbury bubble car shuttle. When we got to Aylesbury I was the only passenger who could open the door being somewhat mature and the rest being youngsters who expected to press a button. They all looked blank then followed me out with a relieved look.

Are 'Bubble Cars' worth it, considering the downtime and other factors?

ATW don't seem to want to give up on it. It didn't work for about 5 months last Winter and after a few on/off appearances in the Summer gave up again until last week.

5 months last winter? You counted two too many :P Jks, ATW and Chiltern are gently motivating them, it seems - like an assembly we had recently from a guy 'motivating' us for our exams.

Chiltern's 55020 has been going for ten years without much dowtime at all. 55034 has also basically worked since that one entered service. Perhaps ATW should be asking why then 55032 keeps being broken on Canton...

Perhaps they should send it to Aylesbury TMD for some TLC? :D

I have been thinking that for a while maybe someone from Chiltern should come and see how ATW are maintaining 55032.

Then again it is being used on an intensive short distance shuttle service compared to the service the Chiltern class 121's perform

The ATW bubble car is out today and is passing my office window every few minutes shuttling back and forth to the bay.

I anyone ever wants to know if it is running, just ask as my office backs on to the Cardiff Bay :)
