I travelled from Glasgow to Euston in first recently and tickets were not checked until well south of the Carlisle stop, by which time we had already been served various 'freebies'. I have noticed this often before, and it does beg the question of how many take the chance and travel there illegitimately for that (quite long) section.

My ticket was not checked at all between Wigan North Western and Edinburgh - no barriers either end

Apart from breakfast which is good as usual the new first class menu offering ( rest of day ) which came into effect last week is very poor choice and has put me off travelling first class on them on non breakfast services so LNER for me via York

The Ploughman's I mentioned above was half decent, even comes with a whole Scotch Egg !!

I am currently on 1S37 , the 05:31 Euston - Glasgow service formed of 390002 ( train is in reverse formation ) I boarded at Preston food orders were taken on departure , hot /cold drinks followed I ordered a full breakfast served with white toast really friendly and polite catering crew , I received a full of rack of toast which is a first as usually i am given a full slice cut in half on the same plate as my breakfast this came handy as I am going Aberdeen so filled me up , the full breakfast was piping hot and delicious , really enjoyed it and prob the friendliest crew I have encountered apart from a nice older lady called Maureen based at Preston don’t know if she is still there or not

Further hot/cold drinks offered after Oxenholme and Carlisle 10/10 to all train crew on said service

Had a great journey with Avanti 1st class this morning 0947 Birmingham New Street to London Euston. Refurbished Pendolino. Coffee served after BHI, also orange juice and water. Full English breakfast served after COV. Food hot, tasty, not greasy, on proper china with stainless steel cutlery. Extra coffee supplied on request. Spent an hour in lounge at Euston afterwards where a variety of decent snacks, pastries and fruit bowls, cake etc on offer with large range of hot and cold drinks. Well worth £66 adv single.

That sounds brilliant!

A rather underwhelming journey from Carlisle to Euston this evening I must admit.

Departed over 30 minutes late from Carlisle, and service was excellent. Drink delivered by southwaite and hot food arrived by Penrith. That was it until Preston. One more drinks run, and that was all we got.

The announcement for the closing of the shop also came around Atherstone, far earlier than I’ve heard before, yet allegedly due to “arriving soon into Euston”.

Hardly worth the substantial increase in fare over standard premium for a small 400kcal dish and 2 drinks - only upside I suppose is that we are 30+ late so I will get 50% delay repay.

That's got to be a good hour / 100+ miles before the train's arrival into London Euston! Maybe they got confused by the late running.

I think (and it was my experience) you get a much better service when it is restricted to just Coach K which tends to happen at weekends.

One person is servicing around 8 or 10 people and your glass is not empty for long.

More like TPE then.

The fares are eye watering though with SP ones equating to the level 1st Class used to be.

Orders taken immediately after departure, two drinks runs and my Full English with me by the time we were approaching Watford Junction! Another drinks run on the approach (~5 mins before) to Coventry, but I was alighting there so no point for me.

No hash brown bites, unfortunately, but an extra rasher of bacon was provided which I was more than happy with!

I'm curious whether they'd accommodate my request for scrambled eggs instead of fried- I've not been in First for years but often got my request denied when I used to travel regularly several years ago.

I've had success with alterations in the past, such as no mushroom (and typically been given something else instead) but I think it's all down to the crew. Some are more open to things than others. I'm less opposed to some mushroom these days.

I once had a crew heat up the cold tiger roll sandwich because "it's nicer like that, even if I'm not meant to".

Had some nice smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on the way back to London. A very short trip to Coventry and back for me today. Should keep me going comfortably into the evening

Sadly not. Only had toast once with a full english on my several Avanti journeys.

Did have it with the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs though!
