Can a claim for Delay Repay from Avanti cover two people or do two separate claims have to be made?
Can anyone tell me why I’m only being offered one ticket refund. Me and my husband were travelling Avanti on Friday with two together railcard. We’re only getting offered one ticket refund, I put in a separate claim for the other. We’re basically losing £130 and we also lost our hotel money as is was too late for hotel cancellation. I feel it’s not fair to lose £130 when our train got cancelled and there was no alternative route for us.

Could you let us know which train/s you were taking, what happened as a result, and whether you claimed for delay repay, or a refund from the retailer?

It sounds like you abandoned your journey and so delay repay is not appropriate here.

We were travelling on 5.52 train Edinburgh-Barrow in Furness which was cancelled 10 minutes prior to departure. I tried to submit a claim which was for delay of 120 minutes before. What should I try to claim for instead? We couldn’t travel as there weren’t any other trains, lots of trains were cancelled due to signal problems. They’ve offered to pay one ticket back to us and are refusing to refund the second ticket. It was a return fare on two together rail card.

You need to claim a full refund from the retailer of the tickets, you aren't eligible to claim delay repay as you didn't travel and weren't delayed. The retailer will refund you in full without any fees in these circumstances.

Delay repay is for when you travel, get to your destination, but are delayed beyond whatever the minimum number of minutes is. You apply for that from whichever company first delayed you

If you don't travel at all because of disruption, or have to abandon your journey and return to where you began, you apply for a refund. You do this via whoever you bought the ticket off

OK. Were they bought from Avanti?
Yes they were bought on the Avanti website.

I’ve not submitted a different form and asked the to cancel the delay refund. Hopefully this will work and thank you for the advice.

Just wanted to update that I filled in the form for delay replay and received a refund. However they’ve also paid me the initial claim for half the money. Basically now they’ve overpaid us so I’ll need to call them to take that money back.
Thanks to everyone for the advice and response on here. I found it a bit confusing trying to claim back for a cancelled train on the Avanti website, initially I could only see an option for claiming a delay.
