As per my reply further up, not every seat with a window has a viable outside view so any plan that just shows windowless seats is slightly lacking.

Yes that's good and all but it only shows the seats that are next to door pockets. Not the seats that are next to window pillars.

I'm not sure why LNER (and others, they're not the only TOC that's like this) are unable to produce seating plans that show window positions. They had it for their old rolling stock!!

Because they don't want to shew how limited the choice of really "good" seats is in modern rolling stock?

Perhaps but I'm not convinced (beyond the door pocket seats which are, as they should have always been, turned into luggage racks) that they're any worse than LNERs Mk4s or Mk3s. They certainly had some duff seats for being next to a window pillar.

I've given B so all we need is someone to report on the other Azuma coaches. :D

Is there an actual plan to install a luggage rack? Or are there just going to forever be a set of seats which aren't available for use?

Some sets have returned to Hitachi over the past few weeks to have seats removed and luggage stacks installed. Pictured is a new stack in Coach L on a 9-car 800.

Only 9-car 800s and 801s are getting the new stacks for now as these operate Anglo-Scottish services where the most luggage issues are faced. AFAIK, there are no firm plans for the 5-cars yet.

Whilst we are on the topic of changes to the train, new bike hooks are being installed which are far easier to use and fit a wider array of bikes. The shelves in the bike cupboards in Coach K will also be removed.

Oh very good! Is that a bit larger than the ones that's were fitted originally as well? It's hard to tell but it looks like it's a bit wider.

No expense spared. They could have left off the three glass panels against the bulkhead surely?

What would be the point if the rack comes with them anyway?

TBH I'd say all 80x should receive these. The luggage space will be welcome, and those particularly poor seats (not only no view but no centre armrest either) are got rid of.

Well I expect the racks aren't exactly off the shelf items, so they would get whatever they order. They could just as easily have had different left and right handed designs.

In the train's future though, these ones could be relocated anywhere without issue.

They are wider - they can fit 1 extra case on each row versus the original stacks.

The design is standard for 80x units, the width is the only customisable part AFAIK. The glass panels have, as mentioned, the added benefit of protecting the bulkhead from damage.

OK then that’s a reasonable explanation, if they’re an adaptation of something they already use.

Looking at the seating plan I would say:
a) No, it's across the aisle from a luggage rack.
b) You must be in a 5-car unit, as the seats across the aisle from the luggage racks in the 9-car unites are being removed.

Thanks for taking the trouble to post this photo. Shame they weren't fitted from the start but good to see progress.
As a bonus it appears the new luggage rack can acommodate more passengers than the seats it replaces (perhaps in a little less comfort than even the much maligned conventional seats).
