A full day out in 2015 with every move loco hauled is a magnificent effort, one of the most impressive I have seen on this thread (which is my favourite, I have read it most days since it started).

12th March 2023 (Yesterday!)

A day out at the KWVR for the Steam Gala.

The day started with me encountering some black ice, and finding myself in a horizontal position. Ouch! Anyway, I made it to the station without further mishap for the only piece of diesel traction of the day, a 158 to Keighley.

After buying my piece (with member's discount) and getting a hot drink, it was time to enjoy the day...

85 Keighley - Oxenhope
85 Oxenhope - Haworth Loop
75078 + 85 Haworth Loop - Ingrow
1054 Ingrow - Keighley
45596 Keighley - Oxenhope
45596 Oxenhope - Haworth Loop
44871 + 45596 Haworth Loop - Keighley
45212 + 44871 Keighley - Oxenhope
75078 Oxenhope - Keighley
45596 + 45690 Keighley - Oxenhope
45690 + 45596 Oxenhope - Oakworth
44871 + 45407 Oakworth - Oxenhope
45407 + 44871 Oxenhope - Keighley

I could have done another round trip, but decided to call it a day. A 333 and a walk in the falling snow got me back home at the end of a vary enjoyable day. A good line up of locomotives, good ale from the Jubilee Bar and good company on the train. Trains were very busy, so a good day for the railway too.

Oh, and 1054, 45407, 45596 and 45690 were new for haulage.

Cheers. The centrepiece for me was the Fife Circle in the evening, which had returned to loco haulage at short notice. As for what happened next ...

221 117 0810 Euston – Chester
67001 1100 Chester – Holyhead

150 257 1455 Chester - Crewe

I share your sentiment about it being a favourite thread.

I was on that train too - as far as Leeds. 40069 was "my machine" so I was very pleased with the mileage. (My exploits probably feature in a much earlier page of this thread.)
I recorded the route slightly differently to you:
Peterborough, Joint Lines, Sleaford Avoider, Lincoln Central, Doncaster, Hare Park Jn, Wakefield Kirkgate, Wakefield Westgate, Viaduct.
I don't have us going via Askern

Interesting. I have dug out my old notes from that weekend and have written GN&GC from Peterborough to Doncaster so assumed via Sleaford station as opposed to the avoiding line (as in my logic I would have expected that I would have written that down if it had gone via the A/L ). I definitely have Doncaster to Leeds via Askern, Knottingley, Crofton Junctions, Wakefield Kirkgate, Wakefield Westgate and the Viaduct line written down. Have I fudged?

I think at that time the Joint Line diversions only ran via Sleaford station when calling there for passenger purposes. I'll have to see if I can unearth my original notebook. 40 mileage book and computer records both show the route I quoted, but I might be wrong.

I suppose 47096 was possibly deputising for a pesky 50 that not long before made the Westerns redundant, or was it steam heat stock ?.

Wow thats New York to Jamaica in 23 minutes !. One hell of a high speed line. OK sadly (I think) I guess its the Jamaica in Queens in New York !.

Well I've checked my original rough notes but they don't add anything.
I guess this will just go down as one of life's little mysteries! Bear in mind that all of this would have been happening between 0200 and 0500 on a slow steam-heated train on jointed track, and the opportunities for dossing through the crucial bit of the journey must not be underestimated.

Might that train have been formed of the 'spare' HST coaches plus generator set, which could be hauled by any air-braked loco? Not sure whether that was in use in 1980 however, and whether if so it would have been deployed on Swansea rather than shorter runs, ie Cardiff and Bristol.

In 1980 that Swansea would have been dual heat loco-hauled stock, so 47096 would not have been unusual.
