Always interesting when two of us (or more!) discover we were on the same train.
I believe it was main line, not via R&C, but I will check.
Not a bad afternoon!Yesterday's slightly delayed effort;
Saturday 9th June 1984
37196 1345 Glasgow C-Carlisle via GSW
37013 1440 Blackpool N-Glasgow C via GSW (from Carlisle)
Not a bad afternoon!
A bit of a let down, but the rest of the day was pretty good!47543 1300 Skegness-Derby (from Beeston)
I notice, bar the first one, all services to/from the seaside (or at least the coast). How many of those services exist nowadaysAnd to reinforce the above, today's effort from 42 years ago;
Saturday 11th June 1983
86259 0045 Crewe-Manchester Picc
31126 0210 Manchester Picc-Cleethorpes (to Lincoln C)
45029 0732 Sheffield-Skegness (to Chesterfield)
37132 0805 Chesterfield-Scarborough (to Rotherham)
45114 0729 Bradford FS-Weymouth (Rotherham-Sheffield)
37228 0922 Sheffield-Blackpool N (to Rotherham)
47008 0826 Bradford FS-Paignton (Rotherham-Birmingham New St)
20159 + 20195 1237 Skegness-Leicester (Nottingham-Beeston)
47543 1300 Skegness-Derby (from Beeston)
47555 1540 Liverpool LS-Poole (Birmingham New St-Oxford)
Plenty of services operate to the seaside. The Spanish seaside, the Portuguese seaside, the Greek seaside...I notice, bar the first one, all services to/from the seaside (or at least the coast). How many of those services exist nowadays?.
Yup. Sadly none loco hauled and never ever likely to be in those casesPlenty of services operate to the seaside. The Spanish seaside, the Portuguese seaside, the Greek seaside...
That train was the one and only time I had 47008. One of only 21 Brush 4s that I only had once (apart from the 8 that I never had at all).And to reinforce the above, today's effort from 42 years ago;

I'll take that as an excuse to repost this image of 37045 from earlier in the thread...You did well to miss only 8! I missed rather more than that, of the 47/0 and 47/3 varieties, although I did have all the 47/4s..... But, thanks to the preservationists, I can still cop the occasional new one, such as 47376 in 2022.
Today's effort;
Thursday 14th June 1984
37045 0725 Glasgow C-Carlisle (to Stewarton)
27014 0605 Carlisle-Glasgow C (from Stewarton)
I changed at Stewarton (single line at the time), rather than Kilmarnock, to make sure I caught the return train, being on the way home after a night shift...

I also had a 47/7 to Holyhead on test from Crewe Works. See post 3,075 above...Wednesday 18th June 1986

This seems to have done Picc to Brum, Brum to Padd, Padd to Brum. Surprised @CW2 wasn't on it40158 1548 Paddington-Manchester Picc (Reading-Oxford)

From memory (!) I think I was on nights, and found out about it long after the event. Gutted!This seems to have done Picc to Brum, Brum to Padd, Padd to Brum. Surprised @CW2 wasn't on it
