I have a hard time choosing a background for evening.

Out of the two, the second one. The first would give the impression of the train travelling over buildings!

Definitely the second one. Just got back from hols in St Ives, Cornwall, and quite often the evening skies looked like number 2 (I've cast my vote):sunny:
