There was a sort of obituary of Barrie on Broadcasting House this morning, given by Barrie Cryer. Apparently, he would phone up each week to rate the programme. The more I hear of him, the more I think he really was one of the good guys, there was so much more to him than a joke machine.

It also included the two jokes included in #13 and #14. Maybe we have celebrity readers?

It also included this-

Boss - where's my pencil?
Secretary - it's behind your ear
Boss - I'm a busy man; which ear?

Maybe we have celebrity MEMBERS?!

If you look at programme end credits you'll see that this man's contribution to 1970s/1980s comedy was IMMENSE! Life would have been a lot more humourless without him. RIP.

On his IMDB page, there are 96 entries under ‘writer’, and over 200 for self-appearances. It’s great to see all the things he was involved in.
I imagine there’s a lot more he contributed unofficially!

These are all for visual programmes. I would have thought his contributions to radio comedy would outnumber them. especially in the '60s and early '70s when radio comedy was still pretty strong and most such programmes had script writers (rather than now, when many programmes seem to have writer/ performers).

Colin Sell, I think you'll find.
How strange, I've always heard it as Searle. Even if you google Colin Searle, it comes up with him - which suggests I'm not alone, but the Wiki entry is under Sell, so obviously you're right. As for Samantha being as late as 1985, I find that impossible to believe. but again, obviously true. I'm clearly getting on a bit more than I thought!

Always reminded about his proposal to the BBC about Cupid Stunt on The Kenny Everett show.
Apparently the name was too obvious and so Cryer came up with an alternative.......

Mary Hinge.

The BBC went with the original name!!
