I'm wondering then if I've got the right book. Available mid-1980s, got it from the old David & Charles bookshop in Chiltern Street, Marylebone, so perceived as a railway book. It concentrated wholly on the Underground network, which the above doesn't seem to, and was full of supposition about where every obscure passage lay, unexplained buttons on goods lifts, secret links into government buildings, and such like. It was self-published, and typescript, with little b/w drawings. I did think it was by Peter Laurie - did he or anyone else ever do anything like this?

Thank you. I now think I may have it, after following further links from there

"Bunkers" under London, by Nigel Pennick Nigel Pennick - Wikipedia , self-published but ran to three editions, last one in 1988.

Bunkers Under London: Amazon.co.uk: Pennick, Nigel: 9781871401004: Books

I see Amazon categorise it under London Tube railways. The shop manager in the old David & Charles bookshop in Chiltern Street W1 told me that the writer had hawked them round personally, and they were there on a sale-or-return basis.

And don't forget the alien spaceship found when they were building Hobbs End station in the 1960s
Station construction seems to have been abandoned following the discovery

Just a bump to see if anyone has remembered any mysterious stories of their time working on the underground?

Ah Arnos grove is featured twice, inside and out. To quote from my book:

"Few believe the official line that Holden was inspired by Stockholm
Library for this design. In fact, it is a miniature portal to his
dimension’s “Asplund ark” class of transport ship" ;)
