Morden Road? The tram stop? If so, take the 3 min tram ride!
Morden road 2 min walk away? Morden is known to be a safe suburb, but if you look at the footpath, and don't want to walk down there, DONT. Take the longer road route.
Should be OK.

I'd be inclined to say no! That area, particularly around Phipps Bridge, always looks to be extremely dodgy. I'm sure once when I alighted at Phipps Bridge there were a load of posters about anti-social behaviour and other crime which had been going on in the area around the tramstop - although I'm happy to be corrected.

Just that I read on google that Modren was in the top 10 safest suburbs of London

I live near there and its pretty alright. Again, the path is quite safe, just a bit dingy, so if you don't want to, travel to Morden road tram stop and walk from there.
