Hi All

The time has come to possibly sell my cherished memories from the last 45 years. Have a mix of steam era, BR and Intercity period items. Approx 40 carriages, 12 diesel and electric locos, 10 Steam locos, quite a bit track and lineside equipment etc. Condition is from rather worn, to 'played with' but solid and some of it boxed in good condition.

Ebay is an obvious choice but anywhere else that is recommended?

Cheers.

Some of the model shops do a valuing service and will buy entire collections. You might well make more selling on Ebay but it depends how much you value your time.

Or I could sell all the track and put my favourite consists into a cabinet. Must admit when I got some of them out yesterday to take photos...the thought of letting them go started to seem unforgivable.

I would have thought the rolling stock and locos would be much more saleable than the track ?

I don't think it's a particularly great time to be selling things unless they are genuinely rare or sought after.

If you don't need to sell then I'd wait until the economy and market recover, when you will get a better price.

Ebay isn't a particularly great place for selling at the moment as the fees are getting out of hand and there's little protection from the unscrupulous.

You might find that a little bit of preparation and thought will reap rewards.

Think about things like selling locos with appropriate coaches or wagons and batching things together in lots, like a station building, platform and signal box, or a full loop of track with a couple of sidings.

There do seem to be a few people out there buying up older models so that they can create the layout they dreamed of as a child in middle age or retirement.
