I hope they do it then.
As for the length of Kirkham Station, from another poster, sorry I forgot how long each were.
I can't see Poulton or Kirkham being extended then, probably not enough justification for it.
In my experience the xx:55 from Preston to Blackpool N and the xx:19 stopper from Preston tend to be the busiest. Leaving Blackpool it's the xx:20 and xx:37 that can be busiest, although the xx:29 is a busy one too. That said they all carry good loads for much of the day, even the Blackpool South service can be busy - extremely so when the Pleasure beach is open or football is on at Bloomfield Road.
Yeah, the Blackpool South XX.02 off Preston can get some very 'healthy' loads in the summer (often to the point of quite a few standing)! Always find the xx.19 off Preston towards Blackpool North (the stopper) quite busy, even in winter.
It's probably somewhat down to the fact that the buses to Preston from the Fylde are VERY slow compared to the train (most take more than hour from Blackpool to Preston - the train is half of that or less). Plus the bus station at Preston is the other side of town the railway station.
Doesn't surprise me at all - not that I have ever seen someone making the journey:roll:. That's why I said in the 'traditional' sense!

Kirkham platforms are 93m
There is a booking office at Kirkham but I think it's only a part time office. Of the 5 trains that use Preston-Kirkham corridor 3 of them stop at the station and two of those are Blackpool North services. Only the York and Manchester Airport services pass through non-stop. Lengthening the platforms at Kirkham or Poulton is unlikely, especially as Poulton has only just been shortened.
I've known the Blackpool South service actually have to leave passengers behind due to the heavy loadings it often receives in the summer. At least match Saturdays sees a 153 tagged onto one of the diagrams on the Colne-Blackpool South circuit.
Until December 2008 it was 2tph, the Blackpool-Liverpool service used to run non-stop (as it still does on Saturdays for some reason).
I agree that the South line has a lot of potential and there is supressed market, especially commuter wise. I've often said that Wrea Green is screaming out for a station as it's around 15 minutes from Preston and the comparable bus services are not attractive in taking nearly an hour. I'm certain there is an untapped commuter market there that currently uses private cars.
Also Wrea Green Station site is very close to the centre of the Village. To be honest I have never understood why they reopened Moss Side and not Wrea Green at the same time.
Personally I think there is alot of suppressed demand on the South line for journeys to Preston.

I'm always surprised when I pick passengers up at Layton heading into Blackpool North![]()

They are repairing the concrete structure of the station.
I once got off at Layton to walk into Blackpool.......

Me too, I have been banging on about the reopening of Wrea Green at every oppotunity here. The problem with the Blackpool South line is that in essence it is a long siding, no mean to pass trains, or to have more than one train at a time, so once a train enters the South line at Kirkham, nothing else can be there as well. Yes I know 'elf n safety' but it certainly does suppress demand. The real supprise is that this very limited service is still so popular.
I think that either doubling from Kirkham to Lytham, and then a passing loop St. Annes to Pleasure Beach. Or a long dynamic loop from a mile before Lytham to a mile beyond St. Annes. Ideally though it should be double track throughout and extended back to a 3 platform station at the sight of Central, with a platfrom alongside Bloomfield Road for when Blackpool are at home.

Is there any truth in the rumour that the "mothballed" line from Poulton le Fylde to Wyre Dock is about to receive its final closure notice? If so, how will that affect any future plans for this line?
