I never understood why they were painted in Blackpool Council's colours. Cream & green would've been better.

Because the Council own the trams, tramway, contributed to some of the costs of the upgrade and indeed pushed for the upgrade in the first place.

And Blackpool Transport is owned by Blackpool Council.

How? You asked why the trams were painted in the Council's colours - it's fairly simple.

Blackpool Transport have also not used green and cream as their fleet livery since the advent of Metro Coastlines in 2002. Painting the Flexities in such a livery would be a wild and retrograde step.

The upgrade to the Blackpool Tramway has been a huge success, and reversed the fortunes of a system that was seen as a bit of a white elephant. Harking back to the past with such a livery would not have contributed to that success, which enthusiasts really need to understand.

It’s significantly less bland than any of the rather naff green and cream liveries.

It’s also literally just paint (and stickers). I’m not particularly sure Blackpool Council are too fussed.

You surely can't be saying that fewer people would travel with a different livery? I suppose it's just possible that someone might prefer one bus company to another, but you don't have a choice on the tramway. A nice "modern" green & Ivory would be far preferable to the dirty purple. As it is now, it's a bit similar to First bus colours, now that would really put people off!
