The shunt movement to get empty mail and parcel vans into the siding was quite a move -
Bletchley yard to up slow through plat 7 ( today’s p5) loco propelling
Stop under flyover then Along up slow in Down direction through plat 6 ( p4) then cross over to down slow, through now removed ‘middle long’ siding onto upfast then cross to down fast ,stop behind. Position light then propel into parcel siding.
The class 08 then returning to up side via reverse of above move.
I also recall the B R Exhibition Train being on display in the siding.
A new longer loading platform was built car park side to allow RoyallMail to use forklifts for mail cage loading , this being in the days when a big sorting office existed in Dawson Road Bletchley.

When I worked for silverlink, a 12 car 321 stabled overnight. Iirc ECS to rugby via the old line (keep both driver and conductor route knowledge up). Then formed a 1N via Northampton to Euston.

Think it changed to a 8 car when the virgin 57 thunderbird arrived. The 57 arrived Monday and left on a Friday evening (drivers were onsite 07-00 - 22-00).

Also remember a royal mail 325 spending a protracted amount of time in there.

it must have been a right pita to shunt into that siding being north facing straight out onto the fasts.

As in off Saxon Street behind the football ground? I assume the trucked/vanned the mail down to Blethcley and onto the trains. Do you know when this stopped?

Why did all the mail on trains stop? Surely would work a dream in today’s generation with so much going back and forth. I’m forever going to the post office

I recall a mail TPO train stopping in Bletchley platform 1 on the Down Fast in the evenings. They were there for some time while mail was loaded on and off the train. There was a letterbox in the side of one of the coaches. You could wander onto the platform and post a letter into it for the north or Scotland that would be delivered the next morning. That was before MK Central opened.

The TPO didn't really have a future imo but had mail services survived i think they would be booming today because of the amazon/ebay effect. Why they ceased might be worth a separate post.

I don't think they did from the platform/loading dock under discussion
