Another superb day out. Slightly tarnished by 30 minute delay on the return leg but the Slammer trip more than made up for it, the Lymington line experience was truely impressive.

I wouldnt have sat in it anyway to be honest! I only took the snap and the head was back out of the window. With permission of course.

:tongue3: Nobody else asks for permission

I used to stick my head out of the windows on the 310's from Tile Hill to Brum at 75mph. Difficult breathing facing forwards. Have to be careful about Berkswell Tunnel too - it cost someone their head (and not like Viv out of The Young Ones).

Did you get a piccie of the BR crest in the middle? Not many drivers take the headboard with them or put 97 up. Bet it was a rosy faced driver with glasses - about 40. (That *&^%*** got the name of Lyndhurst Road changed to Ashurst).

Near Ashurst New Forest Station
I thought it was Hampshire County Council that wanted Lyndhurst Road changed? To encourage punters into the Forest? But why not change Beaulieu Road, in the middle of nowhere and nowhere near Beaulieu? If you want Beaulieu, go to Brockenhurst.

Ashurst (1/4 mile from station)

Ah the memories coming back from Waterloo on a slammer desperatley trying to find an empty standard compartment at Waterloo, and then sticking my head out for 70miles, minding the signal gantries of course!

Yep. Nice innit? Shame about the chunk of paint taken out - unit must have been turned. Haven't noticed that before.

David, Ashurst (1/4 mile from station)

Lyndhurst Road sits there quite happily minding its own business for over 130 years and when he :tard: worked in the offices at Sot'on said the name needs to be changed.

So now we have the stupid situation where they have to keep saying Ashurst (New Forest) to define it from every other Ashurst in the country - when it was the one and only Lyndhurst Road.

I missed it one day - my diagram still showed Lyndhurst Road - and that's what I told the boss I was looking for

Plenty of room on our line ....... but the tree branches ......... :cussing:! do they sting. Luckily it was my hand only.
