As any fule no, London Transport gradually took over the LNER lines from Stratford over the Hainault/Woodford loop and out to Epping and Ongar in the immediate post-war period. Central line trains reached Epping in 1949, and technically LT were responsible for Ongar services from the same date, but hired BR steam push-pull sets until the Ongar branch was electrified in 1957.
Up until 1970 there was a BR connection at Leyton, and I know a fair bit of freight ran until the sixties, and there were even a few BR passenger trains - apparently mainly for staff. Can anyone tell me what sorts of locos and stock were used, what services ran, and when they stopped?
