I'm wondering if they've actually managed to extract the driving car that was for sale out of the beer garden of The Little Mill at Rowarth?

Do we know where it is going ?
I had a meal in that car in 1980something !!!
To this place:

They have some well-restored Mk1 coaches already, finished in a Pullman style, so imagine they’re pleased to be taking ownership of the real thing.

It’s a good outcome given things were not looking hopeful a while back, transport will have been expensive but the pub to their credit were happy to sell it for £1 knowing it was going to a good home, scrapping on site would have netted them a fair bit more cash!

Acquired by Carriages of Cambridge, a rather excellent and bucolic tea room off the A14 at Fen Drayton, mainly comprising several very plush Mk 1s and the former station buildings of Oakham.

We are excited to welcome former Motor Parlour Car No.89 of the famous ‘Pullman Brighton Belle’.

Car No.89 headed the Southern Railways inaugural Pullman service at 11am on the 1st of January 1933, running between London, Victoria and Brighton.

These Pullman Cars were seen as something special, with their Umber and Cream livery and exquisite interiors, boasting a contemporary style and sumptuous luxury, at the height of the art deco period. Passengers included Royalty, heads of state and the upper echelons of society.

Giving nearly four decades of service, with the exception of the War years. Finally being withdrawn in 1972.

Car No.89 was purchased by Mr D Clay and transported by road to the Little Mill Inn, Rowarth, Derbyshire. The Car was used as a restaurant until 1985 then converted to three en-suite bedrooms, latterly, falling into disrepair.

Purchased by Carriages of Cambridge in March 2023, where lengthy preparations began, to insure smooth removal and access for Allelys Heavy Haulage specialists to transport by road, arriving at Bannold’s Depot Thursday 9th June in readiness to be restored to its former glory to head, Carriages three, existing, Pullman style carriages

Carriages is the brainchild of Michael Attle inspired by a visit to a restaurant located in a colonial railway station in India.

On his return, he was offered and bought the station platform from Oakham. This experience, combined with his desire to celebrate the amazing food scene across East Anglia, was the start of the journey.

He then began to build the station with a signal box and source Pullman Style Carriages, a 1920’s station house and even the flagstones for the platform.

I trust that with two Driving Motors already this car was of little interest to 5BEL Trust?

Great news, and well done to the pub concerned! Credit to them for holding out for a good home.

Great video on the facebook link from the pub too - really salute them for doing the 'right thing'. Given the state of it no way the pub could have taken on the cost of renovating that carriage without the risk of dragging down their business I would think. And massive commitment from the new owner - hope they can make it work and achieve a good outcome. Some serious work to do on the Pullman car.

Just getting the carriage out and moving it must have cost a decent sum, never mind the costs to come.
