Long shot, but please does anyone know who was the stationmaster at Bugsworth Station when in opened, in what was to prove a dreadful year, as the line closed almost as soon it opened, with the stone viaduct breaking up, and a year later, a serious accident involving two crashes and two runaways. His name does not appear to be in the Ancestry railway lists (although all the Peak Forest Tramway employees show up nicely). And the man in post in 1871 census was not the first stationmaster. Many thanks.

I don't know the answer but...

Local directories (Post Office / Kellys etc) often list the name of the stationmaster, either at the station, or as householder at the stationmaster's house. Whether the local one would, and whether there's one from just the right time, I wouldn't like to say.

Quite a few are in the public domain - Leicester University have digitised a lot (only seem to be 100+ years old, possibly copyright?) - index page here.

The family research sites like Ancestry (others are available) also have a lot of this sort of thing online, there's some overlap of course. These tend to be on a paid for basis (not sure if you already have this with mentioning them) although some offer free trial periods, and some local library services have access for library members, either from home, or on the computers in the library.
