The Cambridge-Kings Cross non-stop fast services- these can be 8-car and standing on weekends in the middle of the day

I second this. To be honest I'd say all the trains from Cambridge tend to get quite busy bar the Ipswich services, particularly in the peaks and the middle of the day. Early on a Saturday morning though they tend to be empty.

At Heaton Chapel I always see a packed 323 pull up for the 0807 to Piccadilly which is then squeezed to bursting with probably another trainload of commuters!
Similarly with almost any Hazel Grove/Buxton service between 5-8pm made up of a 2-car DMU, it seems like at least 3/4 of the train alight at Heaton Chapel!
