For many years a rake of cable-drum carriers, converted from short-wheelbase bogie bolsters (BEVs), have been stored at Hinksey Sidings here in Oxford, slowly rusting away. After languishing in the main yard, they were finally shunted out of the way last year to occupy the down run-round loop. Today I noticed that they have disappeared. I wonder if any reader can enlighten me as to their destination? I suspect that because of their woebegone state they may well have been dispatched to a breakers' yard. Sorry, I have no numbers and can find no reference to them in the Inter-City Railway Society wagon-gricers' book!
