is there any way to do this cheaply without taking a ridiculous amount of time?
Travelling down this coming Friday evening- earliest train from Cambridge I can sensibly hope to catch is the 1815

Return on the Sunday after 1600.

Network Railcard

Anything under £40?

hmm, now to consider the tradeoff- going the slow route, especially via Liverpool Street, could be rather busy and tedious but does save money. The Sunday evening would possibly the worst- at least on Friday I'll be travelling whilst the opening ceremony for the Games is on, thus (in theory!) avoiding the crowds
