I booked a Northern Duo ticket for myself and colleague. Now they're not coming with me and I'm travelling alone.

Can I still travel on the Northern Duo ticket (the one with the cost on, not the one with the cost printed on of £0.00)?

The official answer is probably no, but if you have both tickets (so it's clear that no abuse is taking place) and explain what has happened then you may well be ok.

I'm inclined to think not. Two things suggest this to me:
Northern Duo said:
Conditions
The Duo ticket is valid for two adults who travel together on participating Northern Rail routes.

Q&As
Does the ticket apply to a child and an adult travelling together?
No. The Duo ticket only applies when two adults are travelling together.

I would suggest that you ask Northern whether you can exchange the ticket prior to travel.

Does your other ticket show the price paid as 1.5x the standard fare? Like MikeWh said, if you bring both you can prove that it's not being abused.

Wouldn't it make more sense to get a refund on the ticket? Say it cost £15 for the 2 tickets you'd get this back and buy a new return ticket for £10.

Northern may choose to charge an admin fee ("up to £10"), making that a bad idea. You could try asking for an excess instead.
