2000 520 E39 and 2015 520 F10. Both manual, which is quite a rarity on the F10. Likewise really pleased with both, the E39 is a wonderful machine.

Great choices. The only reason I got rid of my E39 was I couldn't get on with the automatic gearbox, but it was the only example which was within budget and fairly local at the time. I'd love another E39 one day, but it'd have to be a manual.

The E39 is a car I wish I had owned. I yearn for (but I cannot really justify) a B10 Alpina - these two are listed on a popular auction site:

They're really nice, but like yourself, I definitely can't justify one!

One other stereotype: Lexus owners play golf.

It is a Vectra underneath, the diesels use Fiat engines from the GM/Fiat partnership.

Obviously Saab reworked the Vectra platform to make it more premium. In the same way a Jaguar X type or Volvo V70 of the same era isn't just a rebadged mondeo
I recall Top Gear’s eulogy to Saab commenting on how Saab didn’t use many parts from GM, which was part of their downfall.
